what is parenting coordination?
Parenting Coordination is a court-ordered method of alternative dispute resolution
Parenting Coordinators help divorced or never-married co-parents make decisions in their children’s best interest. The purpose is to keep parents with high-conflict relationships from needing to return to court over details that may not be fully outlined in a parenting plan.
If parents cannot agree, Parenting Coordinators have the authority to render a decision after hearing input from both parents.
Parenting Coordinators do not make substantial changes to court-ordered parenting time or other legally determined issues such as child support. Parents always have the right to return to court if they disagree with a Parenting Coordinator decision.
How do I get a Parenting Coordinator? A family court judge must appoint a Parenting Coordinator. You and your coparent must obtain a court order, even if you agree to the appointment of a Parenting Coordinator.
